The Last Supper

About the project

The Passion of Jesus Christ is the central narrative of the Christian world. Among the many symbols associated with it, “The Last Supper” is one of the most powerful in terms of content, both for narrative and visuals. Thirteen men meet on the eve of the crucifixion, just before Jesus’ death. They break bread and drink wine. It is a story with many layers of meaning, between bitter severity and serene consolation. It allows for multiple interpretations, analogies and re-tellings, often depending on someone’s place of birth, religious and cultural upbringing, politics and social standing.

Initially conceived as a group exhibition at our Italian partner festival Yeast and in collaborations with its curator Edda Fahrenhorst, we have invited the six participating photographers to Lenzburg – two positions from each: Italy, Switzerland and Germany – to expand on their photographic takes regarding this well-known story and cultural heritage.
