Markus Bühler | CH

In the year of the forest

About the project

From the very beginning, Markus Bühler was fascinated by the allure of nature when he first began photographing in the forest 15 years ago. Initially just going for walks, he soon went on extended hikes. The landscape and emotions drove him to document the forest. The diverse interaction of plants, topography and weather conditions created fascinating spaces, which he described as “cathedrals of nature”. The book “Wald Bilder” emerged from this creative journey and was published in the fall of 2023.

After the photographic phase in the forest, Markus turned to film work, intrigued by the constant movement of the forest through changing light and the elements. The camera was mounted on a tripod and the forest staged its drama – a filmed photograph. The two-dimensional, large-scale projection, displayed within a room protected from the weather, transports the viewer into a woodland ambiance and creates a new spatial experience.
