About the project
During a midwinter marked by crises, Siân Davey’s son Luke imagined a radical act of renewal: to transform their long-abandoned garden into a space alive with the connections of wildflowers, pollinators, and people. From this simple yet profound proposition emerged The Garden: an ongoing, intimate pilgrimage cultivating collective imaginations and botanicals alike.
Together, they cleared and reawakened the land, sowing native seeds and caring for the space. As the garden flourished with the heterogeneity of a bursting diverse flora of mullein, poppies, sunflowers, and cornflowers, so did its inhabitants: neighbours, strangers, the marginalised, the grieving, and the hopeful all find a home and a dignifying space to bloom as themselves in the garden. Each visitor became both subject and collaborator, contributing to an evolving narrative of intimacy and belonging.
The garden unfolds as a profound metaphor for cultivating humanity against an increasingly oppressive political climate: lovingly expansive and without division.
