About the project
A Gentle Intro to Metadata is a copy-paste poem written by Laura Paloma in 2019 during her internship at Fotomuseum Winterthur, before becoming a professional artist. The poem explains what metadata is and describes its impact on our personal well-being within a broader social and political context. The exhibition format plays with the standard conventions of the A4 Microsoft Word page and is accompanied by the 90s nostalgia of Word Art aesthetics.
fish is a documentation of the ongoing online performance @same_pic_of_fish_everyday, in which the artist posts the same picture of a fish (nearly) every day. Her account is part of an Instagram community of “daily pics” or “same pic every day” accounts, where members post the same picture to their feed every day.
In this site-specific installation, these works revere the mundanity and absurdity of the everyday whilst posing the following questions: Who is amateur? Who is imposter? Who is professional in the context of everyday (digital) vernacular creative gestures?
