THE TASTE OF TRAVEL

Collective Exhibition

About the project

On Swiss trains, food has long been part of the travel experience, acting as a collective Proustian madeleine shared by generations of travellers. Dining cars, trolleys rolling down the aisles, trays served at your seat, or simple snacks enjoyed while admiring the scenery: these moments transform the journey into a pleasant interlude, where comfort and culinary pleasure fuel the imagination of rail travel.

Through archival photographs, promotional images, and documentaries, this exhibition shows how meals have become an essential part of the train experience. The images depict carefully orchestrated moments of relaxation and conviviality, where pleasure, service, and comfort contribute to building an imaginary world of travel. Because eating on a train is never quite ordinary: it is a discreet but lasting pleasure that accompanies the journey and, with each bite, carries away a fragment of the landscape.
