Photography workshop: Making salt print paper yourself - in cooperation with the Aarau City Museum

The workshop offers the opportunity to try out a technique from the 19th century. The journey back into analogue photography is wonderfully decelerating!

Salt print is an almost 200-year-old technique, based on the calotype developed in 1840 by William Henry Fox Talbot, the first photographic negative-positive process. Talbot's successful attempts to expose and fix image negatives on salt print paper made unlimited reproduction of photographs possible. Together with the Verein Prozessor Aarau, the Stadtmuseum Aarau produces salt print paper with you in their darkroom. From sensitising the paper, exposing it, to developing and fixing it, you can experience all the steps. The workshop begins in the permanent exhibition of the Stadtmuseum Aarau, where you will look at historical salt print papers from the middle of the 19th century in the group and learn something about this technique, which was a milestone in the history of photography.
